FAQs

Check out this section for answers to frequently-asked questions about IVO.

What are Microplastics?

  • Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic formed when larger pieces of plastic break down. They range in size from 5mm to 1 micron. Plastics smaller than that, 1 micron to 0.1 micron, are defined as sub-microplastics.

Are We Ingesting Microplastics?

  • A 2019 report by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) suggests that globally, we are ingesting an average of 5 grams of plastic a week—equivalent to the size of a credit card. These microplastics come from the food we eat, the water we drink and even the air we breathe.
  • Drinking water, both bottled and from the tap, have been identified as the biggest source of plastic ingestion—as much as 1,769 particles of plastic in a week, from both bottled and tap water.

Are Microplastics Harmful if Ingested?

  • As microplastic ingestion is a new area of study, there is currently no proof that it poses health risks. The World Health Organization has warned against complacency, though, as more research is needed to fully understand the effects of ingesting microplastics.

    Where is IVO Manufactured?

    • IVO Faucet Filter is manufactured by Toray Industries, makers of Torayvino—the no.1 faucet-mounted water filter in Japan. Toray is also one of the world’s leading manufacturers of synthetic fibers and textiles, carbon fiber, and high- performance water treatment membranes.

    Is IVO’s filtration technology ‘medical-grade’?

    • IVO’s advanced 4-stage filtration process features the unique hollow fiber membrane – the same technology used to purify blood in dialysis machines and artificial kidneys in the medical field.

    What does IVO filter?

    • IVO filters rust, sediments, residual chlorine and other harmful chemicals, and more importantly, microscopic impurities as little as 0.1 micron such as bacteria, microplastics and even sub-microplastics!

    Is IVO certified?

    • Yes, IVO is certified by:
      • NSF: IVO's hollow fiber membrane technology, manufactured by Toray Industries, has passed NSF/ANSI/CAN 42 standards and is fully NSF- certified.
      • JIS: Filters have been tested according to Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) S3201.

What are the other benefits of using IVO?

    • IVO retains calcium, magnesium and other minerals essential to the human body.
    • IVO helps reduce water consumption by up to 30% (when using the unfiltered spray lever).
    • One IVO refill cartridge filters up 1,500 liters/ 396 gallons -  equivalent to up to 5,000 pcs. of 300ml plastic bottles of water, thus helping reduce plastic pollution.
    • IVO’s compact design allows you to maximize your kitchen countertop space.
    • IVO is easy to install and comes with an easy-to-use lever with 3 different functions and water flow types to choose from.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Break-in period for new cartridges:
    • Everytime you install a new cartridge—please let water pass through the filter cartridge SLOWLY for 30 seconds (max). Do not turn-on your faucet at full pressure / capacity.
    • Improper break-in may cause big air bubbles to get trapped, which may give you a premature slow water flow.

Do I need to buy the filter cartridge and the mounting adapters together with the water purifier?
    • The SB151 set already includes one (1) Head Unit, one (1) filter cartridge, and mounting adapters.
    • You only need to buy a filter cartridge (C151) when the cartridge needs to be replaced.
    • Mounting adapters are only included in each SB151 set and are not sold separately.

Do I need plumbing work to install the unit?
    • No, you don't need plumbing work. You can easily install IVO by yourself.

Once we install the product, will it block the view of the sink?
    • It is so compact that height between the end of a faucet and the spray outlet of SB151 is just 45mm. It saves space and doesn't block your view of your hands when using the sink.

Will it add a heavy load to a faucet when the water purifier is installed?
    • No, it won't! IVO is very light—weighing only 300g (SB151 set).

How will I know if my faucet is compatible with IVO?
    • IVO is compatible with most round kitchen faucets. Please see guide below:
    nature

IMPORTANT: Break-in period for new cartridges:
    • Everytime you install a new cartridge—please let water pass through the filter cartridge SLOWLY for 30 seconds. Do not turn-on your faucet at full pressure / capacity.
    • Improper break-in may cause big air bubbles to get trapped, which may give you a premature slow water flow.

Why do we need to switch from the filtered water to the unfiltered water?
    • Please note that always using filtered water will shorten the lifespan of the cartridge.
    • We recommend using filtered water for drinking and cooking.
    • For unfiltered water, we recommend it for general use like washing hands and dishes.
    • It is very easy to switch between filtered and unfiltered water—just rotate the lever found on the head unit to select the water that suits your needs.

Can we use hot water in the unit?
    • No, hot water will reduce the effectiveness or destroy your water filter.
    • Any water temperature over 35°C will lower the effectiveness of the activated carbon in your filter.
    • Water temperature of 50°C and above will result in deformation and/or malfunction of the product.

How long is the life of the filter cartridge?
      • The maximum filter capacity of C151 is up to 1,500 liters/ 396 gallons. Life cycle varies with usage volume, water quality, and water pressure.

When does the cartridge need to be replaced?
      • To ensure optimum efficiency of the granular activated carbon, it is recommended to replace the cartridge every 4 months. Please ensure that you only take out the refill cartridge from its plastic packaging when you are ready to install it.
      • Beyond 4 months and up until 1,500 liters/ 396 gallons is consumed, the water flow from the cartridge will gradually decrease because of the accumulated impurities in it. But rest assured that IVO’s hollow fiber membrane continues to filter out microscopic impurities as little as 0.1 micron until the very last drop.
